While there are many excellent yet expensive garage storage systems out there, if you feel limited by your budget, the best thing to buy is a set of good storage shelves. Without them, you will certainly have a cluttered garage. This will happen simply by default, as items will not have a place to go!
We are in luck that a whole slew of different garage shelves are available on the market. Places such as Target or Home Depot offer many different models. Depending on the type of shelf it is and the quality and brand, you can pay as little or as much as you want.
Starting from the bottom price tag, hollow wooden shelves are likely the least expensive option. Related to this are the metal wire shelves. While these units can hold quite a bit of light weight items, note that they will not be suitable for anything heavy. In the long term, cheaper shelves can break under the weight of heavy items. Use cheaper shelves for items such as toys, storing out of season or old clothes, and light tools used in the garden.
If you can make it happen, it’s worth purchasing more expensive shelving units that are made of solid wood or metal and can hold much more weight. Units capable of holding hundreds of pounds are going to be great for tools and landscaping equipment and other heavy garage items. In the long run, you’ll find the more expensive shelves are going to last decades, making them a great long term solution to garage storage.
High end shelves offer more than just the ability to hold a lot of weight. Some models offers latched doors over the shelves, making them appear much nicer on the eyes as they hide all the clutter they hold. Other models have beautiful designs and wood finishes, putting them somewhere between a garage storage shelf and a piece of furniture.
The greatest feature of all storage shelves is offered by the units that mount to the ceiling or to the walls. Once installed, you are able to reclaim all the space that was previously being taken up when the items were on the floor! While these do cost more money, you are in a way paying to have more space in your garage available to you.
