What to Know About Having an Electrician Install a New Chandelier

July 7, 2009 in Uncategorized by Tom Sanderrs

If you have purchased a brand new chandelier, you might entertain thoughts of installing it on your own. It may seem like a good idea to install it and then invite people over to show off your accomplishment, but things are not always that simple. After dreaming of the praise and admiration you will get for installing a chandelier, you will realize after opening the box it comes in that there is a lot to assemble and even more importantly you didn’t take into consideration that a chandelier needs electricity to work, which of course requires being connected to your home wiring.

Warnings

You might want to first ask and find out just how difficult it is to install a chandelier before trying anything on your own. It could in fact be a deadly thing to do. Those without any kind of experience or education background in electronics are especially at risk of having a fatal accident. If that in itself is not convincing enough to hire a professional, then remember you can also ruin your new chandelier. All electricians understand the risks and even though they are experienced and know what to do they still handle everything carefully. This is because they know that something unexpected can always happen and for that reason they would even have someone turn off the fuses first.

Not Recommended

There is a good reason that certain countries actually have laws which govern light bulbs. In some places you aren’t even allowed to change a light bulb unless you are an electrician and if you don’t know of that, then you don’t live in a country with such laws. It may sound funny and you may think to just take things in your own hands to save the money.

Consequences

Once you think you can try on your own, your first step will probably be to go online and find a website that provides instructions on how to do the installation. This is not a wise thing to do. If something should go wrong even if you do follow the directions, then consider what the costs will be when the wiring in the walls gets burnt or if the entire house burns to the ground! Either of those scenarios will be a lot more expensive than an electrician.

Electrician

If you want the chandelier installation to go smoothly, then just hire someone who knows what they are doing. An electrician might not get things done right on the first try, but then you can just have them come back to fix the errors. Any good electrician should offer a month’s warranty on their work. Some are lucky enough to know an electrician or be related to one, which can remove the financial side of getting a professional to do the job. Don’t count on this happening though, since only a few will have this option available.

A new chandelier and its installation should never create a difficult situation. Just compare the costs of hiring an electrician and the costs of the consequences if you make a mistake. You will quickly see that electricians are necessary for a reason and it is well worth the expense of spending a hundred dollars to have things done right.
