Can I Have A Wind Turbine With My House?

December 29, 2009 in House and Home by Peter Hainz

The only method of knowing if a wind turbine will work at your house is to have a knowledge of what the wind resource is at your location. This isn’t a query about if it is ever gusty thereit is maybe gusty during hurricanes, but that is just an observation about the weather. What you want to gain understanding about is the long run average wind speed for your area, or serious climate info, not daily weather.

The quantity of electricity a wind turbine can generate is a consequence of how much wind you can collect. if you can solidly collect middle to high winds, you’ll generate much more electricity than if powerful winds are a unusual occurrence only related to thunderstorms. So living in an area with a good wind resource is crucial to the successfulness of your wind system.

And equally important is being able to access that wind resource. If you want to float down a river on a raft, you need to be in a part of the river with strong currents. If you are in a protected cove off to the side and isolated from the river current, you may bob around a bit, but you will not make much headway down the river.

In a similar fashion , for your wind system to basically generate electrical energy, your wind turbine must be situated in such a place where it can access the flow of the wind. This is the reason why turbines are installed on towers that rise high over the encompassing trees and buildings in an area.

Tall towers are necessary to gain access to the flow of the wind. Installing your wind system on a tower shorter than the area’s tree line, or, worse yet, on top of your roof, is akin to floating in a sheltered cove of a river: you may occasionally bob a bit but there will be little forward progress. There is simply little energy in low winds that you can convert into usable electricity. Do you want kinetic yard art or a wind electric generator?

Using Green Energy For Our Future

December 16, 2009 in Environmental by Adriana Noton

With the growing concerns about global warming, rising oil and gas prices, and the increase in pollution in our air, water, and soil, governments from all over the world are now searching for ways to implement more renewable energy sources. The supply of fossil fuels is finite, and eventually the world’s non-renewable energy sources will be depleted so it has become essential to use green energy to create a sustainable future.

The following are a number of innovative green energy solutions:

Hydroelectric Power: Water is an environmentally friendly source of energy and is the most widely-used renewable source of energy. This green energy is generated by driving turbines from the force of falling water. How much energy is produced will depend on the available water flow and the height that the water falls. The fast flowing water powers the water wheels that drive mechanical processes. This is transformed into mechanical energy. The turbine’s rotation spins electromagnets which generate current in stationary coils of wire. The current is then sent through a transformer where the voltage is amplified for long distance conduction over power lines. Water energy dispenses about 60 times less than a coal plant and 30 times less greenhouse gas than gas power plants.

Wind Power: Wind power is generated using the wind. Wind turbines are used to generate the energy. The wind blows the propeller causing it to turn and this causes the turning of a generator to produce electricity. They can be installed wherever there is a good supply of strong wind. The more wind towers and the larger the propellers, the more wind, and the more electricity is produced.

Solar Power: Solar power is the production of electricity from the sunlight. This type of power can be used for heat and electricity. The solar panels harness the sun’s energy without moving parts, pollution, radiation, or noise. One method of using solar energy involves using mirrors to reflect and focus the sun’s rays, providing heat, which helps power a generator. Another method is photovoltaic panels. Solar panels are installed on the roofs of buildings and homes. The panels run generators which provide the electricity.

Geothermal Energy: This energy comes from the heat within the earth. One will capture this energy source by drilling a hole into the ground to acquire the heat. The heat that is harnessed is used to heat water and create steam to power the generators to create the electricity.

Biomass Energy: This is energy from trees and plants. These plants are harvested and their energy is converted to ethanol which can be burned directly by power plants or vehicles to generate power. Ethanol can be added to gasoline that goes in vehicles. However, recently bio-fuels have been found to be a source of greenhouse gases.

The use of renewable energy sources are increasing throughout the world. Solar and wind energies are two alternative energy that have made significant growth in their use. By using green energy, we are helping to ensure a healthy future and planet for our children.

Making Good Use Of Wind Power

December 11, 2009 in Environmental by Adriana Noton

Slowly and steadily, mankind is exhausting all its resources and if mankind doesn’t come up with alternative sources then it would be in severe trouble. People from all round the world are already looking for alternative methods of generating electricity, if not to save resources then to save money in the long run and to keep the environment free. Many energy production techniques have thus come into general attention, wind power generation being the most environment friendly and low maintenance.

Several hundreds of years have passed since mankind understood the advantages in the wind and sought to incorporate those advantages in their daily lives, early ships with sails and windmills are examples of that. Modern wind energy works in the same way though with a slightly different method. The concept of a fan moving in the wind is the same but now instead of milling corn these fans are attached to turbines that convert the winds kinetic energy into electricity.

According to some researchers, even solar energy plays some minor role in the global warming, absorbing some of the suns rays that were meant to be reflected back thereby increasing the planets temperature, playing its minor part in the global warming. Wind energyon the other hand poses no such problem; it is very eco friendly and efficient.

It is no recent development for private consumers to effectively install a wind energy generator in their homes to minimize their electric utility bill. With years of evolving, home wind energy generators are now easy to install, low maintenance and provide a sufficient source of power. Wind energy generators can also be found in the portable category now, excellent for camping trips.

A wind energy generator, when installed in a home provides a certain amount of power which is directly proportional to the amount and speed of the surrounding air drafts. This way you can generate a limited amount of safe and free energy, the rest of your energy requirements can easily be accomplished from your on-grid electrical connection.

A small wind energy generator can easily produce enough electricity to fulfill the requirements of a normal household. However the task falls to you to install the generator in a windy area, a wind energy generator installed in a less windy area will require bigger blades to efficiently produce the same electricity that a small one would in a good wind.

You can effectively sell any extra electricity that our wind energy generation turbine produces back to your electric supplier and in case your wind energy generator fails to produce sufficient energy, fulfill your needs via the grid connection from your electric supplier. A wind power generator is a one time expense that can effectively start paying its price back in aces and keep doing so for long periods of time.

A wind turbine is a one time only expense that can have long lasting positive effects on your budget; you could even make some money by selling any excess electricity back to the electric supplier. However you would have to check any local home ordinances for allowance of a wind turbine, wind turbines are not yet so appreciated in all the states and countries because of its apparent noise or because of specific height limitations in your area.

Wind – it’s invisible yet around us all the time. Harness wind power with new technology available to consumers. A respected science supply stores can be found in Toronto, Canada.

Harnessing All That Is In The Wind

December 2, 2009 in Internet Business and Marketing by Pat Mettmer

When you see windmills what comes to your mind? Do you think of the Dutch countryside scattered with these structures? Do you think of the windmill-fighting Don Quixote, the fictional Spanish nobleman? Whatever comes to your mind, one thing is true; wind solar power is now a reality in many places. After decades of neglect, windmills are being adapted and changed in design to allow them to produce the needed energy that is so vital for life in the 21st century.

In the past the wind was used to power mills to mill our flour. Turning a big grinding stone 24 hours a daywas its primary use. Today, it’s used for another purpose, to generate electricity through the wind. California fosters more then 16,000 windmills alone and these windmills are driven by massive rotor blades rotating powerful in the stream of wind.

Exploiting the power of wind is not new to humankind. Even the early humans used it to sail the waters, a long time before the first engines powered boats. They used wind power to power huge saws to saw their wood or to pump water using pumps powered by the wind. You can still see farmers in America pumping water powered by wind when power is lost.

The 1973 Oil crisis changed many peoples traditional view about fossil views and so started paying closer attention to alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power. Before that wind power was much in the back seat and not seriously considered by most.

Considering its impact on the environment wind and solar power clearly stand out. As long as the sun shines and the wind blows these energy sources cannot be exhausted. Clearly they are the best alternative to fossil fuels and they are easy on the environment. No chemicals are involved in the process of creating energy which makes it at least one of the most user friendly alternative energy solutions currently available.

Discover Some Ways To Reduce Energy Usage

November 16, 2009 in Family by Allen Anderson

The most difficult day of every month is when time comes to pay bills and mostly the enormous electricity bills that we get. Its high time and we need to take serious measures to reduce the power bill. Do not worry. We will share some key tips and will make you reach your goal.

Make sure to discuss with family member about the importance of saving electricity. You can reward them a treat if their participation has led to savings. Suggest them some tips like switching of the lights when they are not present there and attending a call in another room or having dinner at the dining table.

One quick suggestion is to ask them to turn off the lights before exiting a room even if they do plan on coming back at some point. Make sure to switch off all the appliances even if you are sure to be back in five minutes. Every drop of water makes an ocean.

Doing these small precautions is going to save you energy in the short term and long term as youll instill habits in those you live with and in yourself.

One should plan to invest smartly on power. Save energy by using and buying fluorescent lights and CFL bulbs. These lights and bulbs are preferred over traditional bulbs because they use less energy.

Use an energy saver gadget. Using these energy saver gadgets can allow you to find out how much energy you are using each month in your house and thus help you to plan appropriate changes to save energy and money.

Even if you own many electrical items you can still save on energy consumption. This isnt necessarily true, it is more about how you use your appliances and gadgets.

Take a step forward to avoid using those typical items regularly that consumes lot of power:

The washing machine should be used only when there is a bucket full of clothes.

Consult an energy saving guide such as Earth4Energy to learn how to reduce your energy consumption and electric bill. These guides teach energy saving techniques as well as how to make solar energy. Such as teaching you how to build your own windmill.

Alternative Electricity Generation In Your Home Is Viable

November 7, 2009 in Family by Bart Forcey

The majority of electricity research focuses on alternative electricity generation. Energy and electricity production has shifted from burning fossil fuels to using alternative sources that are better for the environment. The traditional methods of electricity generation involve burning coal, petroleum and natural gas. But slowly the world is shifting to investigating and producing electricity from alternative sources. Electricity generation from biomass, solar energy, hydropower and wind power have been successfully developed and more research is being conducted to make them cost effective.

Alternative electricity generation should be embraced because it is extremely environmentally friendly, as it does not produce any waste products. Fossil fuels will one day run out and as those fuels diminish the price for energy and electricity produced form those products will increase dramatically. To access electricity that is affordable as well as good for your family and the planet alternative renewable sources will have to be utilized.

The use of slow moving ocean currents has successfully generated electricity. This type of electricity generation cannot supply the planets needs but it can supply over 15 billion people by accessing just 0.1% of the ocean’s currents. The vibrations that occur in the water are transformed into energy, which can then produce electricity. These vibrations can be due to gravity, fish swimming or wind at the surface of the ocean.

Research into solar cells is going much further than before. Solar energy is a great source of alternative electricity generation. Groups at MIT have designed a solar cell that is 50% more efficient then any that are currently available on the market. Most solar cells are expensive due to the usage of silicon but the new cell only uses 1% of refined silicon.

It is quite possible that waste will be turned into an alternative electricity source, as a new waste to energy project will take care of much of the waste disposed. Garbage is a problem to the environment and this is a great renewable options. Municipal trash is burned to produce steam and electricity. This has been know to produce electricity for over 100 years yet it has not been a popular source of electricity. This is a fantastic way to get rid of landfills and produce electricity at the same time.

Burning garbage may seem to be a cheap way for alternative electricity generation, however, the feasability of this option remains to be seen. The danger of creating noxious fumes or further contributing carbon emissions currently outweigh any benefit to the reduction of municipal landfills.

Wind power and solar energy are really the best forms of renewable energy as the sun shines whether it is cloudy or not and wind power is the most efficient form of renewable energy. With the energy challenges to face in the future researchers are investigating electricity generation from the pH difference between soil and trees, cyanobacteria and wind current to name but a few research projects.

Is wind electricity the solution for everyone to be electricity self sufficient? Some parts of the world have sufficient reliable wind to make sufficient electricity to serve everyones needs.

Is An Alternative Energy Source In Your Future?

November 5, 2009 in Family by Johnny McKay

Do You Want To Help Cut Down On Fossil Fuel Usage?

Have you given any thought to what you, personally, could do to help cut down on our over consumption of nonrenewable fossil fuel? Perhaps you would like to but, you have the opinion it would cost far more than you could afford. So, until there is a way that using alternative energy becomes more affordable, does just continuing on and waiting for someone else to solve the problem seem the thing to do?

During this present decline in Real Estate values, you may have thought about what you could do to make your house easier to sell. Hopefully selling at this time isn’t a concern of yours but, even so, you might want to consider how much more your home would bring if, the new owner didn’t have to be dependent on the electric company. Just think, how excited your Real Estate broker could get about listing a house that has it own Alternative Energy System all ready installed.

The US Government has now changed its’ mind and adopted a favorable attitude about solar panals and wind power. This is bringing forth many new innovations, from Think Tanks to competitive contests among business and industry, as well as colleges throughout the country and the world. These Government programs designed to bring out the creativity of the best brains out there will absolutely maximize our results as quick as possible. So the future is getting much brighter.

It was certainly exciting to me, when I discovered there is an affordable good solution to going green for the average guy. The affordability secret is a (do it yourself) energy system. Finally at last, there are some how to plans that are very easy to follow. They are so simple that you don’t have to be a carpenter, mechanic or a left brainer to figure them out, almost anyone can.

Earth4Energy Review – The Best Home Solar Power Guide?

November 3, 2009 in Hobbies by Tim McDonald

So you’ve heard all about making your own home solar power, and home wind turbine for next to nothing. You’ve heard how successful people have been at doing it. If you have, I am sure you would have come across the Earth4Energy guide that claims it can help you save up to 80% on your electricity bill. But does it really work? Well, let’s see:

Likes:

1 – Great value for money

Although similarly priced to its competitors, the Earth4Energy ebook is not only the longest guide (currently 73 pages), but also the most complete. And if the guide could not answer any questions we had, the great customer support helped fill in the blanks, which brings us to our next point…

2 – Quality customer support

Our support tickets were answered not only quickly, but very thoroughly. Furthermore, a while back we recommended they provide video instructions to help people picture the building process better – and guess what? They recently did! How’s that for meeting your customers’ needs?

3 – The best solar power plans

The solar power plans were full of advice and with the step-by-step videos, they were the easiest to follow. Micheal Harvey was accurate in saying it would cost us under $150 for all the materials and parts, since we ended up only spending $139.37. How crazy is that? If you think to get a professional system with similar power output would have cost well into the thousands of dollars!

Another great thing about the Earth4Energy ebook solar plans, is that they explained how to make the system portable – which we used to power our RV.

What we did not like about the guide:

1 – Need to scale up to achieve desired results

This is actually what we found wrong with ALL the home solar power and home wind turbine guides. They say that it will cost under $250 to build both system, but what they do not say is that you will need more than that to make enough power to start saving more. So, according to how much power your home use and your climate, you will most probably have to build more than one solar and wind power system to get the ideal results.

The Final Decision:

If you are really serious about making your own home wind turbine and solar power system to start saving money, then Earth4Energy is your best option. It has the most comprehensive instructions, practical diagrams, step-by-step videos, and top quality customer service with regular, value-added, free updates. And it is no wonder it has outperformed it closet competitors – Homemade Energy and Efficient Planet – by over 500% (based on number of happy customers).

And what’s even better is that you can now get a FREE sneak peek of Earth4Energy, before deciding to make your own Home Solar Power and save thousands on your electricity costs.
