Incredible Devon Vacations And The City Of Exeter
March 19, 2010 in Vacations by Andrew Kelly
When the majority of folk discuss having an England vacation they frequently just think about resorts by the sea such as Weston-super-Mare, Bognor Regis, Great Yarmouth and Margate. Infrequently people might debate having a short break in a particular county in England such as the county of Devon in south England but rarely do they think about taking a vacation in the city of Exeter. This article discusses various reasons why an Exeter vacation is a wise idea.
Probably one of the most important reasons for taking a short city break in Exeter is that there is cheap accommodation available with Exeter bed and breakfast available from about twenty five pounds a night and lots of places around the 40 – 50 price range.
Obviously there has to be more than a minimal price to attract you to visit a city and Exeter certainly has plenty to offer the possible tourist. You will find that there are many superb visitor attractions in the center of the city and even more near by and if this is not sufficient then Plymouth is nearby and you will discover that there is also cheap Plymouth bed and breakfast and even more brilliant tourist attractions. Also there are plenty of breathtaking places to visit all along the nearby coast.
Where To Stay In Exeter
The Drewe Arms This accommodation is superb, it’s rooms are budget but the actual building is a picturesque 17th century thatched inn situated on the Two Moors Way (a walkers route). Sadly it is roughly 15m away from Exeter city center. If you want more luxury the inn also offers four-poster rooms.
The Crawford Hotel This accommodation is lots closer to Exeter’s city center, just over one and a half km. It is a 2 star establishment with comfortable en suite rooms and, importantly, 24 hour access to your room, excellent if you are planning on a late night or you will be needing to access the room throughout the day. There is there is Free wireless internet access available in public areas of the hotel.
Tourist Attractions
In the city there are just a small number of visitor attractions which merit a visit including; St Peter’s Cathedral, Rougemont Castle and the Royal Albert Museum. As I said earlier there is a small selection of close by seaside town and villages to see the most beautiful being the old-fashioned villages of Beer, Seaton and Sidmouth.
Further away, between Exeter and Plymouth is the sparsely populated moorland of the Dartmoor National Park with the overall region having a fair few places to visit including Buckland Abbey, Buckfast Abbey and A La Ronde on the main road, to Plymouth. Along the way you will pass by the Torbay area, which includes Paignton, Torquay and Brixham and is often called the English Riviera.
Exeter really is a fantastic city in which to have a vacation but why not discuss having a twin destination vacation and spend a couple of nights in a luxurious Plymouth hotel and tour the spectacular coast and countryside in between these two excellent cities?
