Seven Pounds, an American film drama, was released by Columbia Pictures in December 2008. He ultimately commits suicide by climbing into a bathtub full of poisonous jellyfish. He keeps the temperature freezing so it will save his vital organs and he can give his final two gifts.

The Bourne Identity movie is a highly entertaining thriller with lots of action scenes and lots of martial arts on display. There is absolutely nothing in the movie that can be termed as unnecessary or overdone. The romance between Julia Stiles and Matt Damon is always hinted but never shown at an extreme point. The German director Ingo Rasper debuts with a comedy – Fashion Victims. The flick has already won many accolades including the prestigious Berlin and Beyond Festival’s first – feature prize. It has also won an audience prize at the Max Ophuls Festival. The plot revolves around a middle-aged status obsessed family and their upheavals with gay romance as a sub plot thrown in.

Edgar Selge plays the role of Wolfgang Zenker who lives in a provincial German community. He has been booked several times for over speeding. He also has a stay-at-home wife in Erika (Franziska Walser). Wolfgang earns his livelihood by selling drab clothes for middle aged women. Roman Knizka plays the role of Steven, the young salesman, who rivals Wolfgang with his collection of new fashion conscious clothes which becomes an instant hit with the people. This, no doubt, creates a problem for Wolfgang.

Wolfgang is seen driving Kartsen to the airport as the latter was to join a Spanish language summer school. But again they are caught speeding and Wolfgang is handed a ban on driving. Karsten is forced to stay at home. This is where the real drama begins.

In the sub plot we are shown that while running errand to the nearby dry cleaners, Karsten comes across Steven and they immediately begin to like each other. Obviously, he did not know that Steven was his father’s sworn business rival. In the midst of all these Erika thinks of divorce while Wolfgang tries to over-extend himself at the bank.

The film ends with reconciliation though it threatens tragedy at the onset. The film is a relatively good one with some brilliant performances from the lead actors. Edgar essays his role well with a hint of desperation in his performance that is so evident in a salesman. Walser as his wife is brilliant and you just cannot avoid sympathizing with her. She portrays a woman who is worn down by the actions of her husband.

J.R.R. Tolkein’s, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings Movie comes alive on the movies screen just like it does in page after page in the book with the same name. This first episode of the three-part series is just great. The first part is called The Fellowship of the Rings, the second The Two Towers and the third The Return of the King. All three episodes are filled with fun, and never derails from the track.

The Fellowship of the Ring starts of with a prologue that sets up the legend of the ring. This is about eight minutes long. The crux of the story is that a ring was forged with the power to destroy the world. This ring passed from Sauron, the dark lord to a hobbit, Frodo Baggins. Frodo was a sweet natured, peace loving, smoking pipeweed, munchkin short, furry foot young fellow who lived in the Shire. He loved to pass his time with his friends Sam, Pippin and Merry. He belonged to the affluent class.

The ring comes in to Frodo’s hands by way of inheritance. When he inherites his uncle Bilbo Baggings property, he gets the ring along with it. Once the ring comes in to his possession, his life and the lives of his friends changes forever. He must set out to destroy the dark lord and is aided by other characters like Gandol, the white, Aragon, the human warrior, Boromir another human warrior, the elf archer Legolas and Gimli the dwarf to form the fellowship of the ring in this quest. Frodo must travel to Mordor in order to destroy the ring. On his journey, he needs to pass Moria, which is filled with magic, dark riders on dark horses, ghosts, ringwraiths, giant trolls and orcs – rotten teeth and flesh, foul smelling, gigantic, ugly beasts.

The ring along with an invisibility cloak and a sword is that Frodo has got for his protection. Besides Saruman, Frodo is the only other human who carries the ring more than anyone else. Though his health suffers, by the end of the third part, on account of being the ring bearer, he understands his duties and tries to fulfill it with determination. The elf princesses, Arwen, with her delicate unearthly beauty and strange elf tongue adds romance in the movie. All three parts have many exciting battles. You will only find your self sitting on the edge of your seat through out the movie, wondering what’s going to happen next.

Gollum is the most interesting character in the film. He contradicts himself constantly. His duel shaded character, the pitiful good side struggling not to be overcome by the revengeful, poisonous bitter side is portrayed well. It is because of Gollum being at the right place, at the right time that Frodo is successful, in going undetected while entering in to Mordor. Gollum leads him in to Mordor through hidden paths and short cuts. Gollum’s longing for his ‘precious’, the ring, ends the story the way it does because in the final moments, even Frodo for a second is overcome by the power of the ring, and wants to keep it for himself.
