A Nasal Splint Is Put On The Nose After Nasal Contouring

Once the structures of your nose have been completely addressed, your plastic surgeon will carefully close each incision and will suture the sides of your septum together. The meticulous closure will allow for better healing and will make nasal packing unnecessary in the vast majority of cases. There are certain specific technical considerations that will call for the need of nasal packing in a small minority of cases after a nasal contouring procedure.

After the cosmetic surgery procedure is completed, the nose will be carefully cleaned on the inside and on the outside. The nasal structures will be carefully and meticulously compressed in order to reduce the swelling and bleeding. Special tapes will be placed on the surface of the patient’s nose along with a custom molded nasal splint to further improve the shaping. This will also help in reducing the swelling of the nose that will commonly occur after the surgery. Again, internal nasal splints of packs will unlikely be used as these structures will be held in place firmly with meticulously placed sutures. These sutures will always dissolve on their own over time.

The splint and tapes for the patient’s nose will be placed there for roughly one week. A small dressing will accompany the patient home over the bottom half of their nose which will typically be required only for the first several hours of the day after the procedure. The patient will receive specific post-operative instructions from their plastic surgery office after the surgery.

The splint will be removed roughly one week after the procedure. Most of the swelling will have resolved within the first few weeks after the nose job surgery. However, there may be some small amounts of swelling that are persistent for many months or even a year or more after the surgery. The most subtle changes may take up to a year or more to see following the procedure. The decision to have a nasal contouring procedure performed on you will be personal. You will have to decide if the benefits of the procedure will fulfill your goals and if the risks and potential complications are acceptable to you.

During the consultation that you have with your cosmetic surgeon, he and she will go over the specifics of nasal reshaping procedure with you. You should feel free to ask any questions that may come to mind any time before or after your surgery. Your cosmetic surgeon will more than likely have significant experience in performing these procedures and will gladly go over any details with you. A nasal contouring procedure is a safe procedure, but it does carry some risks. Complications will be rare, but they may include rupture of small surface vessels of the nose, poor wound healing, bleeding, asymmetry, infection, changes in sensation (numbness), nasal septum perforation (a hole in the nasal septum), pain, unfavorable scarring, changes in breathing, skin contour irregularities or discoloration or extrusion of the sutures. Due to the complex nature of the rhinoplasty procedure, a revisional surgery may be required. But that is unlikely. A nasal revision will usually be small and will typically be a touch-up.

Rhinoplasty, Septoplasty, And Tiplasty Create A More Aesthetic Nose

The nasal septum, the structure that separates the two nostrils inside the nose, is composed of bone and cartilage. The septum may become twisted or deviated, which will cause a smaller nasal passage on one side or the other, or both. Many reasons can account for this deviation. These include trauma at birth or accidental injury. This nasal deviation is capable of altering or impeding the pattern of airflow through one’s nose which will make it difficult to breathe. In addition to that, the nose may also appear somewhat crooked or with a “hump.”

The three basic plastic surgery procedures that involve altering the nose are: septoplasty, rhinoplasty, and tiplasty. Septoplasty is surgery of the nose that improves or restores its functionality in terms of breathing with more ease. This surgery will correct a deviated nasal septum as mentioned earlier. Rhinoplasty is surgery of the nose to shorten, thin, straighten, augment, elongate, or otherwise create balance in the overall impression of one’s face. A patient who seeks nasal surgery for more cosmetic reasons will often elect rhinoplasty, which includes alteration of the nasal cartilage and bone. Tiplasty is surgery of the of the nasal tip and its cartilage. Patients will elect this procedure to define and refine the tip of their nose. Because rhinoplasty refers to the overall reconstruction of the nose, it may also include refinement of the nasal tip, straightening of the nose, narrowing of the nose width, or reduction of the “nasal hump,” as a combined surgery.

Revision rhinoplasty is surgery that is performed in order to correct the results from a previous nasal contouring surgery. Unfortunately, a second nasal procedure will not be as easy as the first one due to the formation of scars that lessen the options during a revisionary rhinoplasty procedure. In order to assess his or her nasal conditions for nose job surgery, the prospective patient should make sure to set up a consultation with their cosmetic surgeon. The use of video-imaging will enhance this process in that the patient will be able to directly relate to their surgeon any specific concerns or conditions. The cosmetic surgeon will discuss and examine the various concerns with the patient in order to ascertain what the best plan is to refine or correct the nose.

The consultation between the patient and the plastic surgeon will provide complete information about nasal contouring surgery. After the cosmetic surgeon has performed the thorough examination of the nose, the patient is able to ask any questions that concern the expected results and potential challenges that are associated with the surgery. The patient will be able to review photographs of nasal reshaping patients who have elected to have a similar cosmetic procedure. In addition, a computerized video-imaging session will allow for visualization of the changed that are possible to achieve for the patient.

You Can Reduce Or Increase The Proportions Of Your Nose With A Nasal Reshaping

A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is used to enhance the appearance of the nose. The surgery is capable of increasing or reducing the size of a person’s nose, narrowing the span of the nostrils, changing the shape of the bridge or tip of the nose, or changing the angle between your nose and your upper lip. The surgery is also able to be used to correct an injury or birth defect, or even to help relieve problems with breathing.

The most appropriate candidates for a rhinoplasty are those who are looking to improve the appearance of their nose, those who need to reconstruct their nose from an injury or birth defect, and those who have a great difficulty breathing. As it is with any operation, there are associated risks involved with this procedure. These include, but are not limited to nosebleed, infection, or an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. After the procedure you may experience small burst blood vessels that can appear as tiny red spots on the surface of the skin. These are minor, but may be permanent.

When the plastic surgeon chooses to use an open technique, there will be a small scare that runs across the base of the nose which is barely visible. Most people do not experience any of these complications. You need to make sure that you discuss these concerns with a cosmetic surgeon before your surgery to make sure that you completely understand the basic risks along with any other specific risks that may also be involved.

At the initial consultation with your plastic surgeon, he or she will examine your nose and explain to you the procedure along with the risks that are associated with the surgery. Also, your surgeon will give you various options based on your specific situation. He or she will ask you about how you want your nose to look and will talk about what he or she thinks is realistic.

This observation will be based on the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the thickness of your skin, your age, and the shape of your face. At this time, the surgeon will also discuss the different types of anesthesia and the risks that are involved with each one. He or she will also explain the estimated length of your surgery and will inform you on how long you healing period will last. You should feel free to ask the surgeon any questions that you may have so that you can have a complete understanding of nasal contouring surgery.

The procedure will be performed in a hospital setting and when it is done you will be able to go home, unless there have been complications. Your surgeon will likely recommend that you have someone drive you home and take care of you for the first twenty four hours after surgery.
