Fight Card For UFC 111!

On march 27 2010, The Ultimate Fighting Championship (ufc) will be having another fighting event. With star fighters such as George St-Pierre, Thaigo Alves, Frank Mir, Nate Diaz, and Ricardo Alemida. Shane Carwin will be squaring off against the mighty Frank Mir for the Interim Heavyweight championship. George St-Pierre will be defending his welterweight championship against Dan Hardy.

The president of UfC Announced Tuesday That UfC 111 will be aired in three dozen high – definition Cinemas in Canada. This will be the first time a pay per view event will be shown north of the USA boarders. The event will be shown in, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Albert. The event will also be shown around the world with broad castings in china and South America.

With other great fights including a welterweight championship showdown, UFC 111 will also feature the big boys of the UFC. Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will square off inside the now-world-famous Octagon with Shane Carwin to effectively settle once and for all who will become the next challenger to the heavyweight throne.

Jon Fitch (11-1 ufc, 21-3 mma) will be squaring off against the “pit bull” Thaigo Alves (16-6 MMA, 9-3 UFC) for the second time. Back in 2006 alves lost two fitch by tko. Alves was originally going two fight alemida, but when he got the word that he has a chance two avenge one of his losses he jumped on the deal. the two top contenders were first suppose to have there rematch earlier this month at UFC 107, but Thaigo hurt his knee and had two back down from the fight.

Another welterweight match up will be Matt Brown (11-7 MMA, 4-1 UFC) VS Ricardo Almeida (11-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC),Brown is a serious contender to the 170-pound division, with three aggressive tko wins in five post-”TUF” fights. Ricardo is very impressed by Brown striking, in “The Ultimate Fighter 7″ Brown quickly got a reputation as a very tough guy who has very good technique. Almeida has one of the best ground games in the ufc. Almeida will need more then just ground work two defend against browns striking. Almeida has equipped Frankie Edgar, two help adapot a good stand up game.

Roy Markhman (17-6 MMA) will be fighting Nate Diaz (17-8 MMA) at ufc 111. Nate Diaz, who is very dangerous on the ground, will be looking for his second win in five fights. Diaz is the ultimate fighter 5 season winner, and has beating some of the top fighter is his division. Markham is currently coming back two the ufc after suffering a defeat against Dan Hardy back in 2008. markhman was going two fight Martin Kampmann at ufc 108, but had two step down do two a ankle injury.

The Overwhelming Benefits Of Kids In Martial Arts

The martial arts have become very reguolar activities for kids. This has been in part due to the franchising of certain martial arts, taking out most of the contact, and making classes more “kid-friendly” in which there is a lot of excitement, games, and fun activities. Even martial arts with more contact are attracting a younger student body. Styles such as Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and muay Thai are starting to have more kids classes. The kids programs generally will focus on good technique, learning to move and being coordinated, and other fundamentals that will prepare them to spar when they are older. Martial arts classes are becoming as common as dance lessons, soccer practice, and swimming instruction. It seems that parents not only feel more at ease with a non-contact martial art, but they also have seen the benefits of traditional martial arts principles regarding behavior and attitude.

In general, children who do martial arts such as Karate, Judo or Gracie Jiu-Jitsu learn how to be respectful of adults and their peers. Many times classes will reinforce the necessity of paying attention, waiting your turn to speak, valuing other people’s ideas, and encouraging your teammates. Children many times bring these teachings into their regular life, being respectful of their teachers, peers at school, and their families.

Discipline is another fundamental that many parents value. The martial arts teaches you to practice until something is right, to stay focused, and never give up. Martial arts instructors generally like to have order in their dojo and, therefore, teach their students to train within the constraints of a group, stay in-synch, and follow directions immediately. Many parents find that the discipline learned in martial arts help their kids succeed in their schoolwork, their listening skills, and their behavior in general.

Another benefit of martial arts is that it is very goal-oriented, which can help some children stay focused, feel rewarded, and continue to be motivated to train. Although it varies from style to style, martial arts schools have a ranking system based on belts, ranging from white to black. Most styles also reward students with “stripes”, or tape on their belts to indicate how the student is achieving within their belt level’s curriculum.

Part of achieving rank within the belt system is finding a balance between pride and humility. It is important to have pride in the work that you do, the ranks that you achieve; however, one must remember that they can always learn new things and improve. Even as black belts, good martial artists remember that other people have skills and strengths that are advantageous to learn from. Many Brazilian Jujitsu players feel that the black belt level, although it is the ultimate belt rank, is where one really begins to learn. Hopefully, most instructors will instill this balance within their students.

One problem some people have found with many martial arts schools that have kids classes is that it gives a false sense of confidence in their ability to defend themselves and fight. Kids who start in the martial arts kick pads, punch targets, and yell as if they are training to fight, but generally cannot spar and practice their combinations in real time like adult students can. This leads to many children who have high ranking in a martial art to, at best, feel lost when starting to train in contact martial arts and, at worst, to get beat up on the playground. Of course, this is not the case with all children or all martial arts schools; but it is something, as a parent, to be aware of when deciding on a martial arts program for your child. How Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Gained Its Fame

Gracie Jiu-jitsu is known world wide as one of the most effective forms of hand-to-hand combat. The Gracie family took the teachings of a Japanese man and adapted them to make them more effective, especially when dealing with a fight on the ground. Helio Gracie was probably the most instrumental in making this form of jiu jitsu into something unique. Helio’s main contribution was to adapt the martial art techniques so that they would be effective in defeating bigger and stronger opponents.

As he became more proficient, Helio launched the early stages of Gracie Jiu-jitsu in a series of high profile matches. In spite of not always being triumphant in these contests, Helio gained acclaim for lasting far longer than anyone thought he would be able to against more powerful and more qualified opponents. In 1951 he fought Masahiko Kimura, then considered to be the greatest jiu jitsu fighter in the world. Kimura claimed that if the contest lasted more than three minutes, then Helio should be proclaimed the champ; Helio lasted for thirteen. In 1955, the longest fight in the world happened when Helio held off a fighter twenty years younger than him and forty pounds heavier for three hours and forty minutes.

When Rorion Gracie, Helio’s son, departed Brazil to bring Gracie Jiu-jitsu to the United States, he planned to continue his father’s legacy. The Gracies wanted to create jiu-jitsu schools to share the martial art methods that they had tailored after decades of intense study with the rest of the planet, and America was the ideal place to do so. Although Rorion initially struggled in establishing his Brazilian Jiu jitsu school, he gained increasingly larger numbers of students mainly by issuing the Gracie challenge. This was a call to any fighter of any discipline to meet him in hand-to-hand combat in order to see whose field was more powerful.

Gracie Jiu-jitsu truly arrived in the 1990s. Mixed martial arts tournaments were becoming an exciting new event, and in 1993 the Ultimate Fighting Championship was held. This tournament pitted fighters of different disciplines against each other in order to determine not only which fighter would be the ultimate victor, but which fighting style would prove to be the most effective. Royce Gracie took the Gracie name and made it immortal by winning the first UFC, and a total of three of the first four events. Everyone in the sporting world soon knew the Gracie name, and it became synonymous with victories against larger and stronger opponents.

As a result of these steps over the years, of hard work and a willingness to commit entirely to the martial art, Gracie Jiu-jitsu has earned the spot as the most famous and one of the most respected disciplines in the world. Who knew that when Mitsuyo Maeda came to Brazil to share his master’s teachings in 1914 that he would be setting off a chain of events that would lead to jiu jitsu gracing the top of the martial arts world less than one hundred years later?

Brazilian jiu jitsu is incredibly fascinating to watch. Jiu jitsu schools and Brazilian jiu jitsu training programs are popping up everywhere because of the popularity of this martial art, which is often seen in Mixed Martial Arts arenas.

Safety and You

We live in a feral and dangerous world. Kids are no longer armed with the slingshot from Grandpas attic, but now wield knives and guns. Gangs are in full form, completely disregarding all law, and in fact get off on spitting in the face of innocence and justice. Desperate men are getting more desperate by the day, and civilian options are getting sparse in the way of self-defense in these times. Whether you are a socially important man, working for the goals of society, or an everyman just trying to get through day to day living, we are all concerned for our own well being and the truth is we have few ways to feel safe.

Obviously, you’d look like a fool going about your day to day business sheathed in a wall of Kevlar, or wielding a riot shield. Beyond that, those actions would make you yourself look undoubtedly suspicious. But finally, we do have a new option in defending ourselves. Some fine folks in the weapons industry have turned to crafting defensive tools as well as destructive. One of my personal favorites is the introduction of Bulletproof Clothing. Yes, that’s right, every day wear, and innocuous looking jackets that can stop gunfire!

One can now garb himself in tangible safety without drawing attention to yourself, or wandering into the eyes of suspicious lawmen. Not to mention, the clothing offered up is rather snazzy to boot! Prefer to keep your wardrobe as it is, but still want to better defend yourself? There are shockingly conceal able vests offered as well, easily slipped under your day to day wear and still providing superior defense.

The clothing is tailored to your fit and size, eliminating discomfort and poor fits associated with most other products of this type, and keeping your clothing looking fit and neat. The armor plating can be removed from the garment, allowing for less conspicuous feel, if you know your are coming into contact with others much, or you can remove them if an upgrade is needed! The plating comes in a variety of strengths and protection levels, allowing you to tailor the product to your level of need!

And lastly (probably what you are thinking about right now) is the cost. What price tag can you put on safety? Fortunately, not a very high one! These products are actually quite affordable, even to those working with a budget. Many companies even offer a sort of layaway or pay by month program! Personal Security Training

There is no better way to protect yourself than by educating yourself in self-defense. It doesn’t have to involve learning advanced techniques or require months out of your life either. But a little personal security training will go a long way in helping to ensure your own safety.

The chances of being robbed, mugged or kidnapped are slim, of course, but the risks are still out there and it is worth being prepared. Many people can sense what sorts of places and situations to avoid yet may still find themselves in just such a predicament unavoidably. You want to be prepared for potentially threatening situations.

Potential attackers take their time choosing their targets. This does not necessarily mean they take days to find their target but rather will watch several people assessing the chances of being able to overpower them. The manner in which you approach your car and your level of awareness of your surroundings can determine whether or not you will be chosen as the next victim.

Personal security training courses are offered in many communities around the country and it is a great idea to sign up for a class! These classes will teach you how to handle potentially threatening situations. They will teach you the importance of confidence in deterring criminals and you will learn techniques to help you avoid confrontation and/or get out of it quickly.

As a general rule, the people who instruct these classes have a background in law enforcement or may have had some personal experience with assault in the past. Either way, they are usually quite passionate about sharing their knowledge and teaching people how to protect themselves. Classes may meet once or twice a week for a few weeks and you will have the opportunity to put your newfound knowledge to the test with hands-on practice and enough review that you can call on your training should you ever need it.

Personal security training can help you lead a safer, more secure life. The knowledge you acquire will increase your level of confidence and help to alleviate any lingering fear you may have about being unprepared in difficult situations. This alone makes you a less likely target for attackers.

A Dying Breed

Blacksmiths have, over the centuries, poured their will and time into the creation of tools that help those wishing to gain power or preserve peace attain their goals. Even in these times of guns and electricity, honor is paid to those who craft, and yet the light has focused on only the craftsmen that create weaponry. They share an honorable craft to be sure, but what of those that create armor and tools of defense?

How can it be that those that bolster our defense have fallen out of glory? Who is it that decided tools of death deserve a higher place of honor than tools of preservation? It could be said that with the inclusion of firepower and projectile weaponry, armor became obsolete. Then again, did Kevlar and other forms of bulletproof gear not rise to the occasion? Even now we see the purchase of “old world” weaponry in masses. Sword collectors and warriors alike continue to respect the art of weaponry. Why have they forgotten armor? It was a source of honor and pride not long ago, displaying handsome filigree and splendor, and often a symbol of one’s family or lord.

We must preserve and honor this dying craft. Once again find our hearts drawn to the splendor and glory of man-made armors, crafted with a deft hand and a careful eye. No warrior is complete without proper gear, and this extends beyond the sword he carries to the cuirass he trusts to stop a deathblow, the greaves he shod so as to tread uncaring across a torn battlefield, the helm that he dons so he can face the might of his opponent unfettered by fear.

Even the collectors of today have trained their eye onto weaponry, forsaking armor. Unfortunately this leaves their collections lacking, for no collection can shine fully without a full set. Collecting weapons only can be said to be akin to buying a car without the engine, or a horse with no legs. The collector is missing out on the full picture, only taking care to notice the more media-fueled portions of the craft they pay homage to.

I would encourage any who count themselves among those who fight, whether it be in the ways of the old, or the ways of the new, to be the proud owner of his own armor. Take pride in it; allow it to house his soul just as he does so with his weapon. Even the collector should take care to flesh out his collection, painting the full picture of the art of war and not just a half vision.

Gichin Funakoshi and the True History of Karate!

The Common misconception is that Gichin Funakoshi is the father of modern Karate. Well, he could be considered such, except that something odd happened a century ago, that puts a blot on this conception. We’ve got to give him credit for spreading the art, but was it the true art?

I know what I write here is not going to be what a lot of people want to hear, there will be a few people who are going to argue and oppose me. However, the history that I am about to relay did occur, it is the real story. That said, please know that I do respect Gichin Funakoshi, one cannot underestimate his importance.

in the last century of Japan, people loved to watch the human cockfight. It wasn’t uncommon for people to gather to watch these affairs. Certain of these fighters even offered cash prizes to the audience, step up if you think you are better than me!

One night a Russian strongman issued a challenge to the Japanese audience. One can imagine the sneering challenge, and the surprise when a frumpy, old Okinawan stepped up to the ring and prepared to fight. The year was’21, and the turning point for karate was about to occur.

Motobu Chōki was 52 years old when he climbed through the ropes that night. He had studied with virtually every Karate master on the island of Okinawa, and he had, when he was young and impetuous, perfected his art in the violent red light districts of his island home. This history, and a daily regimen of makiwara pounding, served him in good stead.

One punch later Motobu climbed out of the ring, the Russian strongman lay sprawled and doing the one punch snooze. Reporters were delighted, they wrote colorful stories, and handed them in. Editors were delighted, and, since they didn’t have any images of Motobu, they popped in a picture they did have of a guy who was doing karate.

Gichin Funakoshi, a mousey school teacher from Okinawa, got credit for the violent knock out performed by Motobu Choki. And Motobu, though he did teach karate and did spread the art somewhat, because the media did such a bang up job of reporting, got no credit. And Funakoshi became famous and shared Karate with the world, yet, it wouldn’t have happened without Motobu’s one punch one kill prowess.

Now, who has the real karate, a school teacher who shmoozed with the Japanese because of the wrong picture and good communication skills, or a rough cob who got the job done. No, Funakoshi’s karate is not bad, and generations of karateka have worked to improve it. However, there is still that one blot, a hundred years ago, provided by a man with a slobber knocker punch, which offers the concept of who had the True Art.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Be Prepared to Work!

Brazilian jiu jitsu training is not really for the casual participant. Generally, the instructors will want a significant commitment from their students, and if it is a Gracie jiu jitsu school that you are attending, then this commitment will extend to how you conduct yourself outside of the dojo as well. The seriousness that those involved with Brazilian jiu jitsu show is a result of being at the top of the mixed martial arts world. Despite the intensity usually involved in the training, most classes follow a structure similar to any other martial art.

Brazilian jiu jitsu training, as with advanced training and most types of structured physical activities, will almost always begin with some sort of a warm-up. If you’re new to jiu jitsu, then the teacher will likely focus on a less difficult warm-up session. A lighter session will commonly involve some fundamental exercises such as situps and pushups, and maybe laps around the gym. Stretching also occurs once your body has warmed up a bit. A heavier warm-up would be longer and really created to break a sweat and help you with conditioning for staying power.

After the warm-up, the next part of Brazilian jiu jitsu training usually concentrates on techniques. Certain moves will be chosen by the trainer and broken into sections so that students can perfect each stage. Errors are ironed out at this point, and the trainer will attempt to spend time with each student to ensure things are being done correctly. More skilled students are often matched with newer ones, so that the former can help the latter. This is particularly important in bigger classes where the teacher is unable to provide everybody individual training simultaneously.

At the end of the lesson, there is usually time set aside for the application of Brazilian jiu jitsu training that was earlier taught, through one-on-one matches. Students are paired up and within a time limit are given the chance to try out the martial art techniques they were shown earlier in class, or in previous lessons. This sparring is a good way for students to see just how useful the techniques they are learning can be, and how to more quickly execute moves when up against an unyielding opponent.

Brazilian jiu jitsu training is not for the casual participant due to the amount of work involved and the high expectations that instructors tend to set. But if you are dedicated and make the most out of each session by warming up properly, concentrating on mastering the techniques taught, and making the most out of sparring sessions, then you will have a positive experience. This is personal training at its highest and you will find yourself with greater physical and mental strength as a result.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu caught the attention of the world in the early’90s with the launch of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. These were mixed martial arts fights that paired fighters of different disciplines. The Brazilian jiu jitsu style is considered by many to be one of the most effective forms of combat.
