Push Email: Always On
Email is rapidly becoming the most commonly used method of communication between businesses or individuals. It is simple and effective and leaves a convenient record of everything that was said. Many email providers have developed different options and tools to access the mail on a server, but push email has changed that procedure completely. These new methods make mobile email even more useful and convenient.
A user can have instant access to all and any new emails received on the email server through push email. A user also does not need to worry about missing important emails, even while out of the office, due to the responsibility of checking for new email messages being passed on to the push email system.
This is all great, but, how does push email work? The answer is fairly simple, but complex at the same time. It all has to do with the way the server receives the messages and sends them out again. With a general POP3 system, when a user or mail client logs into a mail server and there are new emails, it will download them for you to view.
Push email does not need to regularly make checks by the user or by the computer for new emails. When the mail server receives a new email, it automatically “pushes” the message out to the inbox to notify that a new email has been received. Hence the name: push email. This feature is very convenient for anyone who is away from their office frequently but still is very reliant on receiving their emails.
Push email services really began to take off when the handheld devices market became synonymous with mobile productivity. A handheld device like a smart phone or PDA can act as the client for push email so that a user can have access to their messages even without a computer nearby. Most modern phones will, of course, allow a user to read, reply, and delete any messages, just as if they really were on a computer, but by using a push email system a user can have the added convenience of staying connected at all times.
Different push email devices offer different email services. Some might be able to connect to well known mail servers while others cannot. You need to take the time necessary to research the individual offerings from each phone and operating system. Yes, owning a handheld and receiving email on your mobile device might not be for everyone, but for those who need to stay connected at all times, this is probably the answer you have been looking for.
