A couple of popular medicines for humans that can cause feline renal failure is ibuprofen or naproxen. These are also called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. If you feed your cat table scraps, lay off the onions. Onions contain thiosulfate compounds that damage the red blood cells in your cat. These damaged cells clump together and form a mass called Heinz bodies. These Heinz bodies destroy the red blood cells leading to anemia and kidney problems in cats.
Consider giving violets or Easter daisies instead of Easter lilies during the Spring holiday. Make sure you keep vitamins and drugs in the cabinet and not laying around for your cat to eat accidentally. Check the garage for open containers of antifreeze, rat poison and anything with arsenic in it.
