Becoming a university student is a pretty major deal to any kid who just graduated high school. The thought of moving out of the house can be exhilarating as well as scary. Life is going to be a lot different. You should look to former college graduates for some decent advice to help them settle in. Here are a couple.
Try to complete as much study work as you can first thing in the morning every single day. Most likely you are at your best mentally soon after you wake up in the morning. That is of course assuming you weren’t out screwing around the night before. Make the most of your clear head and see how much class work you can get done in the least amount of time. It will make most days go a lot smoother.
Be careful not to make the mistake of scheduling classes back to back or too close together. There are going to be times when you want to get stuff done right before class that you had forgotten about. You want the spare time. Plus, you don’t want to be in a hurry getting from one class to the other.
Make new friends in your classes the first day. Introduce yourself to someone sitting next to you in the room. See if you have anything in common. You want to have somebody you can bounce ideas off of for class or just to ask questions if the need arises.
Get a lockable box for your dorm room. You really want to have somewhere secure to store personal materials. Without one, you are likely to eventually end up having something come up missing. Then you will be tempted to look for a person to blame. You’ll never really know if it was your fault or if somebody robbed you.
Your studies will take off very quickly. Take good notes the very first day of classes. You may expect the first day to be a breeze. It wont be. Make sure you have your supplies organized. There will probably be things mentioned that you aren’t going to want to forget.
Try to arrange specific times to get together with other students from each of your most difficult classes for a study group. Don’t go overkill. You don’t want too many students. You really only want a few. Anymore than that and your otherwise productive study group will turn into a social gathering.
Make your study area in your room as comfortable and well organized as reasonable. It is really important to be well organized. When you are bugging out because you have got too much work to do, it will be much more bearable if you’re organized.
