Don’t Let Ring Bearer and Flower Girl Gifts Be A Burden

Your flower girl and ring bearer play very special roles in your wedding. One is preparing the way for you to walk down the aisle; the other holds the symbols of you and your spouse’s future life together. Together, they are helping you create the perfect ceremony that you’ve dreamed of for so long. They deserve something for their hard work and incredible maturity on this day. Here’s how to find the perfect gift for them.

Talk to the parents of your little leaders and find out more about them. Does your flower girl play a sport when she’s not dressed up and carrying around baskets of flowers? Does your ring bearer like to play guitar after school? The children’s hobbies will help you figure out what to get them. Also, the parents can give you some other gift ideas that you may not even have thought of. They can think of things that their children need, or other things that would suit them just fine.

If, for some reason, you can’t talk to the parents or guardians of your flower girl and ring bearer, you may have to rely on your own ingenuity. Your ring bearer may appreciate something a little more boyish– a football, perhaps, or some other sports based toy. If you’re lucky, maybe the children will both enjoy reading, or have some type of similar interests. Your creativity could make a child very happy.

In the event that you honestly have no idea what to give your flower girl and ring bearer, don’t panic–just ask them. Make it easy on yourself and do the brainstorm activity mentioned earlier, then give the list to them and say, “I was trying to find a nice little present for you. I came up with all of these ideas, but I can’t pick one. Can you find one on this list that you’d like, or maybe you have a suggestion that I hadn’t thought of?” You may be surprised at how well this works. The children will be more than happy to help you pick out a present, especially when they know that it’s going to be for them.

Feel free to create a unique gift for your children, if necessary, if your options have completely run out. You could make it simple and just give them a card, perhaps with a few dollars in it, with a heartfelt message explaining how grateful you are for their help. You could also give them a discount coupon (or even tickets!) to a local amusement park, or take them out for a day. Many options are available once you free yourself from the bounds of traditional gifts, and these options might sometimes be even better than something in a box.

Your flower girl and ring bearer are young, but they shouldn’t be neglected with all the activity surrounding a wedding. They work just as hard as the other members of your wedding party, and they deserve credit for every bit of it. Don’t forget them on your wedding day. Make sure they know how much you appreciate them with a special gift that they will enjoy for years to come.
