Brisbane Is More Than Great Night Life

March 20, 2010 in Vacations by Kathy Smith

Although Brisbane has a relaxed beach feel, it is actually located off the coast. If you are looking for the beauty and serene atmosphere of Moreton Bay, then you need to head to the suburbs, such as Redcliffe and Manly.

Redcliffe: From Queenslands first European settlement (1824), to a thriving seaside city, Redcliffe is only a 30 minute drive from Brisbane. Part of the attraction to Redcliffe is the relaxed lifestyle, golden beaches, and parks. This peninsula sticks out into Moreton Bay, and from the top of the volcanic cliffs you can take in the views of the islands from across the bay.

There are heritage trails that you can follow, where you will enjoy the sights of historic buildings. Redcliffe beaches are great for the swimmer in everyone, and if you are more of the fishing kind you can hop onto the Redcliffe Jetty. At Pelican Park, you can enjoy kite flying on the the second and forth Sunday of each month, hosted by the Queensland Kite Flyers Society. If you are interested in looking at wildlife, Redcliffe offers tours where you can watch humpback whales migrate past the coast during the winter.

Alma Park Zoo: The Alma Zoo is located in the rainforest gardens, and is 28 kilometers north of the city. Here you will have the opportunity to interact with both Australian and exotic animals, such as koalas, kangaroo and deer. Other animals available for viewing are wombats, camels, monkeys and more. There are also many spots for you to stop, relax and enjoy a nice afternoon picnic.

Wynnum-Manly: This is an attractive coastal area, located on 15 kilometers east of the city. If you are interested in wildlife, Pandanus Beach is the place for you to visit, just watch out fro fish and migrating birds. There is a boardwalk along the shore for you to enjoy a leisurely walk, or you can hire a bike and ride a 5 kilometer esplanade from Manly to Lota. If you want a glimpse of some beautiful yacht visit the Manly Boat Harbour, you can also hire boats for fishing and sailing while you are there, or book a tour to the island of St. Helena where the structures of prison life still remain from back in 1867-1932.

The suburbs that surround Wynnum-Manly have a history dating back to the 1860’s. There is a 19th century fort located at the mouth of the Brisbane River, Fort Lytoon, which acts as a museum on Sundays and public holidays. The museum is an interpretation of the military and social history of Queensland form 1879. There are also public tours, of Brisbane, offered at the Port of Brisbane and an information visitors center.

A brisbane accommodation can be difficult to decide on. Are they charging to much? Is this the suitable choice for you? With the various hotels in brisbane to choose from you should go to www.brisbaneinformation.com.au. They have information and tools to help make you holiday planning simple.

Getting Your Luggage Ready For Your Trip

March 20, 2010 in Vacations by Thomas Clarke

Packing for a trip is a chore, nobody likes to do it, but it needs to be done. Sometimes I wish that I could wave a magic wand over a suitcase and all my stuff is magically packed and all I have to do is enjoy my vacation. There are things that you need to take along with you no matter where your destination, and there are things that you will want to take depending on where you are going.

Every trip will require the basics like shampoo and toothbrushes and deodorant, but special trip may require special things to take along. Of course you don’t want to take so many things with you that the airline makes you pay extra to take along. You want to pack smart, not too light and not too heavy. The best way to start is to not wait until the last minute to get your stuff ready. You don’t have to start three weeks early, but if you wait until the night before you will always forget something.

If you forget something minor, such as a toothbrush or deodorant, this is not a bug deal as you can always find a store that will have these items for sale. However, if you forget to pack something such as your medicine or your sugar checking kit this can become a large hassle and you will waste hours of your vacation time trying to get new prescriptions from your doctors and finding a place that will fill the prescription for you. One of the simplest ways to ensure that you bring all the items you will need is to prepare a list. This is the best way to ensure that you remember to pack everything you will need during your vacation.

Start the list early, when you first figure out where you are going and when it is fresh in your mind. Add all the things that you think you will need to take along. Add whatever you want to the list, when the time comes you can always cross things off that don’t seem as important anymore. Maybe you thought that you need those vintage wooden clogs on your skiing trip, but on second thought you could probably get along without lugging them to the mountains. Clogs are better in the summertime, but those are the calls you’re going to have to make on the fly.

By making a list you have just turned this tiresome chore into something that is fast and easy. Just think, once you have all your items packed you can head towards your vacation destination and have the fun and relaxation that you deserve.

You can find cheap airfares are great deals on www.expedia.com. When you travel for the holidays, getting a cheap flight can really make the entire vacation better.

On cold wintry days, anyone can imagine packing a quick suitcase and making a mad dash to some warm and sunny destination. Cold, wet, windy winter days can grow wearisome and can bring a person down and make them gloomy. If you are gloomy and blue, then it is hard to concentrate and hard to get your work done.

But if you are one of these individuals what can you do? The only solution to the winter blues is a fast trip to a warm and sunshine filled destination. This could be a getaway to a beach destination or even an island one, it really doesn’t matter as long as it is warm and sunny! The winter time is the best time to pack up your sunblock and your favorite pair of shades and get out of the cold and into the warmth of the sun.

A good rule of thumb is to give yourself an extra day when you get back into town, that way you have a full day to acclimate yourself back to normal living. The shock of going back to work and school the day after your back from an awesome vacation can be too much for some people; it can make you feel worse than before you left.

So when the winter weather is getting you down the first thing you need to do is jump onto the computer and start looking into destinations and travel arrangements. When making arrangements on the internet you also will save the time of making hundreds of calls checking airlines and hotel availability and prices. The Keys in Florida is one of the many wonderful destinations that will assist you in overcoming your winter blues. Another great destination is Acapulco, Mexico. Incredible Devon Vacations And The City Of Exeter

March 19, 2010 in Vacations by Andrew Kelly

When the majority of folk discuss having an England vacation they frequently just think about resorts by the sea such as Weston-super-Mare, Bognor Regis, Great Yarmouth and Margate. Infrequently people might debate having a short break in a particular county in England such as the county of Devon in south England but rarely do they think about taking a vacation in the city of Exeter. This article discusses various reasons why an Exeter vacation is a wise idea.

Probably one of the most important reasons for taking a short city break in Exeter is that there is cheap accommodation available with Exeter bed and breakfast available from about twenty five pounds a night and lots of places around the 40 – 50 price range.

Obviously there has to be more than a minimal price to attract you to visit a city and Exeter certainly has plenty to offer the possible tourist. You will find that there are many superb visitor attractions in the center of the city and even more near by and if this is not sufficient then Plymouth is nearby and you will discover that there is also cheap Plymouth bed and breakfast and even more brilliant tourist attractions. Also there are plenty of breathtaking places to visit all along the nearby coast.

Where To Stay In Exeter

The Drewe Arms This accommodation is superb, it’s rooms are budget but the actual building is a picturesque 17th century thatched inn situated on the Two Moors Way (a walkers route). Sadly it is roughly 15m away from Exeter city center. If you want more luxury the inn also offers four-poster rooms.

The Crawford Hotel This accommodation is lots closer to Exeter’s city center, just over one and a half km. It is a 2 star establishment with comfortable en suite rooms and, importantly, 24 hour access to your room, excellent if you are planning on a late night or you will be needing to access the room throughout the day. There is there is Free wireless internet access available in public areas of the hotel.

Tourist Attractions

In the city there are just a small number of visitor attractions which merit a visit including; St Peter’s Cathedral, Rougemont Castle and the Royal Albert Museum. As I said earlier there is a small selection of close by seaside town and villages to see the most beautiful being the old-fashioned villages of Beer, Seaton and Sidmouth.

Further away, between Exeter and Plymouth is the sparsely populated moorland of the Dartmoor National Park with the overall region having a fair few places to visit including Buckland Abbey, Buckfast Abbey and A La Ronde on the main road, to Plymouth. Along the way you will pass by the Torbay area, which includes Paignton, Torquay and Brixham and is often called the English Riviera.

Exeter really is a fantastic city in which to have a vacation but why not discuss having a twin destination vacation and spend a couple of nights in a luxurious Plymouth hotel and tour the spectacular coast and countryside in between these two excellent cities?

If you are thinking about taking an Exeter vacation please take a look at our listings of Exeter bed and breakfast

The Advantages of Renting an Apartment for Extended Stay in Paris

March 19, 2010 in Vacations by Stephen Daniels

Many people who find themselves in France for an extended period discover that Paris apartment rentals are not only cheaper for longer stays, but they also offer many amenities such as a kitchen or temporary post office box. While Paris is certainly known for its hotels, there are many property management companies which specifically target people staying for more than a few weeks but less than a few years. Some of these properties will even allow visitors to rent them on a week-by-week basis, enabling them to compete with many of the extended stay hotels in the city. Apartment rentals in Paris are thus an attractive and affordable option for those looking to conduct extended business or study in the area, or even those who just wish to vacation for an extended period.

The huge, sprawling nature of Paris has contributed to the construction of many thousands of flats throughout the entire metropolitan area. The integration of residency, industry and commercial exchange has put Parisians within walking distance of their jobs and shops for centuries, allowing for modern visitors to have their pick of apartments.

Almost any part of Paris will have some sort of property which is available for rent to vacationers and businessmen. Since almost every Parisian lives in an apartment instead of a house, there are always new rooms making themselves available. There is, of course, less availability in more heavily developed areas, but an effort to keep Paris from modernizing means that most parts of the city are not heavily developed and that ancient houses are still made available and affordable to short-term renters.

Visitors need only to prove to the landlord that they are sufficiently able to pay rent and that they are legally in the country in order to gain access to a rental property, although of course certain landlords may have their own restrictions. Those renting on a short-term basis tend to be charged more than their long-term counterparts, and may be asked to pay all of the rent up-front. However, renting an apartment is almost always cheaper than renting a hotel room of comparable luxury.

Rental properties in Paris are also known for their affordability. The large number of rental properties on the market at any one time, combined with government controls, keeps rental rates on Parisian apartments at quite reasonable levels. While some of the high-end luxury lodgings cost thousands of Euros per month, it is more typical to pay about six to seven hundred Euros per month in order to rent a good apartment. This is the equivalent of about a thousand dollars, and is in fact quite competitive with most major American cities.

The Gilded Valley

March 19, 2010 in Vacations by James Pynn

Mill Valley has emerged, of late, as a favored destination of middle class families, even though it has long been the destination of choice for the Bay Area wealthy. Though it still remains one of the most expensive North Bay towns to live in, more and more families are trying to leverage their budgets to afford living there. This, of course, was not always the case for Mill Valley. Indeed, until recently it was little more than a kind of vacation spot for the Bay Area well-to-do.

Mill Valley is still something of a hard sell. Given the fact that a three-bedroom home still rents for approximately $3,000 a month, the town may be a hard sell for families not accustomed to the high price of living in the Golden State. Nevertheless, for families seeking nothing more than a vacation destination, they could do far worse than the North Bay.

Mill Valley is poised on the outer periphery of the Muir Woods National Monument and just north of scenic Sausalito. Tourists who are more interested in exploring the natural beauty of the Bay Area would be better served staying north of San Francisco. Here they can take in the Muir Woods and perhaps plan a day-trip to Stinson Beach, which is one of the preeminent beaches in the region.

After a day soaking in the sun, there are a number of attractions Mill Valley has to offer within its city limits. A few of them are Blithedale Park, Cascade Park, and Mill Valley Golf Course. Blithedale Park is a hiker’s paradise, so be sure to come equipped for a moderate to easy hike. Cascade Park, on the other hand, is a family park designed for your usual family fare: Frisbee, picnics, and perhaps an afternoon nap. Mill Valley Golf Course is the only one in the county and is open to the public. It’s nine holes of golf you will not soon forget.

Don’t play the odds or tempt fate. The best way to reserve your next vacation to the North Bay is to reserve a Mill Valley hotel room well in advance. Though San Francisco tends to enjoy the lion’s share of tourists to the region, Mill Valley happens to be the vacation destination of many locals. When you come, be sure you bring your supply of tanning lotion and your checkbook.

The number of affordable Mill Valley hotels may be surprising given the fact that property values are so exorbitant. Fear not and come visit.

A Brief History Of The Rugby World Cup

March 18, 2010 in Vacations by Adriana Noton

Rugby is a very popular sport throughout the world, and is played within all of the countries of the old British Empire and Commonwealth. The best countries are those that reside in the southern hemisphere such as New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. In addition to this certain British countries such as England, Ireland, and Wales, as well as France are consistently competing at the highest level. Every four years there is a Rugby World Cup is held in order to find out which is the best team in the world.

The first of these tournaments was held in Australia and New Zealand in 1987. The inaugural tournament was won by the dominant team New Zealand in a final against France where the margin of victory was 29 points to 9.

Four years later the Rugby world cup came to Europe and was hosted by Great Britain throughout different stadiums in England, Ireland, and also France across the pond. For this tournament, a qualifying tournament was used to decide the final lineup of the 32 teams that were to compete. Four years ago it had been an invite only tournament, but now some of the lesser-known countries had to go through qualifying periods in order to make sure they got into the tournament.

On this occasion, the tournament was won by the neighbours of New Zealand, Australia which kept the dominance of world rugby firmly in the home of the southern hemisphere. England were beaten in the final on this occasion by a score of 12 points to 6.

Another four years went by, the World Cup came to South Africa and it was to be the first time that all of the matches in the World Cup were held in one single country. It was also the first time that South Africa were to be competing at themselves of the tournament due to the end of the boycott that was held during the apartheid era.

In one of the greatest stories in the history of the game, South Africa ended up coming out of the blue as underdogs and one against the most dominant team in the world of New Zealand in the final but is widely regarded as one of the greatest rugby matches of all. Nelson Mandela was there to see the captain of the team Francois Pienaar lift the trophy above his head in a great symbolic moment in the country’s history.

The World Cup came to Wales in 1999. Again the dominant teams in the world were the teams of the southern hemisphere, and the home nations were unfancied to put up too much of a fight when it came to the closing stages of the tournament. New Zealand particularly well fancied to come as winners as they always were at every tournament with the powerhouse Jona Lomu surging down the wing. However New Zealand were overturned in a huge upset by France who then went on to be defeated by a strong Australia in the final.

As such had become the first side to win the World Cup twice, but by 2003 the World Cup would finally make an appearance in the winners circle on European shores. Australia once again battled their way to the final against the odds by beating New Zealand in the semis. However, they came up against an England team that had dominated world rugby for a couple of years and were defeated by the trusty boot of Jonny Wilkinson in the most famous final that has ever been played.

In 2007 in France, England against all the odds manage to get to the final for a second time running and a third time in total. However they were defeated in a close game by South Africa who managed to lift the trophy for a second time in four attempts. In 2011 the World Cup will be set in New Zealand? Will it the most powerful team in the world finally be able to win it again?
