Is A Preexisting Condition Stopping You From Getting Health Insurance Coverage?
Let’s face the facts: You are discriminated against when qualifying for health insurance if you have a pre existing condition. I’m sure you would agree because you’ve been turned down for that very reason; maybe even more than once.
Your pre existing condition cost insurance companies more than a healthy person’s coverage. Considering that a pre existing condition can include diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity, etc., it can be with you long-term or chronically for the rest of your life. Insurers are for profit companies. They are not in business to lose revenue. You will most likely get the same results when searching for coverage through various major medical insurance companies. Underwriting is basically carried out the same way; so you can’t escape ultimately being declined. But getting around it is within reach with the following available options.
1) You obviously have coverage through your employer sponsored group plan if you are currently employed and your employer offers health benefits. All employees are covered in that group and can’t exclude you. So in this scenario, you are covered.
2) COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985) – You and your family can continue to participate in your employer’s group health benefit plan if you lose your job; however, at your own expense for 18 to 36 months. It will definitely cost you more than what you were paying while employed; but your preexisting condition will be covered.
3) Guaranteed issue health insurance coverage for those with a pre existing condition or who are considered uninsurable is available out there. However, unlike a major medical plan, it is actually a limited medical plan. That simply means you’ll have coverage up to a certain dollar limit for specific benefits. Anything beyond that amount rests upon you. But, depending on which of these guaranteed plans you choose, you’ll find that they cover a pretty decent amount or percentage of the Medicare Reimbursement Schedule. It also comes with additional benefits.
With a preexisting condition, you want to make sure that you are going with a guaranteed issue health plan that’s HIPAA-compliant because as long as you’ve had continuous (a maximum of a 63-day break) creditable coverage (individual, group, managed care, standard indemnity, COBRA) for at least 12 months before applying, you will be covered immediately. Otherwise, your preexisting condition will have a 12-month exclusion or waiting period and then after that, you’ll be covered. At least you will know that it will eventually be covered and you won’t be declined. Again, there are many other benefits that you will get too. You’ll be amazed.
4) Finally, state-guaranteed subsidized health insurance coverage is something that most of us have no awareness about. States do not spend money on advertising it for obvious financial reasons; which is not surprising. HIPAA-eligibility is a requirement (see above) for this in some states unfortunately. I will preface by saying that it is specifically designed for people who are uninsurable which means they can not qualify for private health insurance. It is not designed for those who can not afford to pay for health insurance. It is typically more expensive than private coverage for healthy individuals. Unlike commonly in an individual/family policy, the lifetime maximum benefit is lower; about $1 to $2 million. Although it varies, some states require that you must be a resident of that state for a minimum amount of time before you are eligible. But, HIPAA-eligible individuals are not subject to state residency requirements.
A high-deductible health insurance plan is what I would recommend that you obtain if you or a family member have not developed a pre existing condition yet and are still healthy. In the future, if a pre-existing condition does develop, that coverage will already be established and your premium can not be increased as a result of it. Plus, it is guaranteed renewable which means it can not be canceled unless payments are missed.
Overall, for your pre-existing condition, you should be able to find some kind of health insurance plan, unless you are severely broke. Even in that case, there should be some kind of low income (or no income these days) Medicare program in your state. Maybe someone that you’re close to has good health insurance coverage. Check out what you can legally do to become eligible under another person’s health insurance policy. Give it a shot.

Sometimes we try to cut corners to save now but end up draining our pockets later, which may be the more expensive route. However, if you are single and rather conservative with your activities, a higher deductible probably would not be such a bad idea. However if you visit doctors quite frequently, you would want to focus on a plan which has a low co-payment or the amount of money required for you to pay per each doctor visit. This is very important to look into as some types of insurances do not offer this, usually being the catastrophic like policies.
The best thing you can do, is to consult with a licensed health insurance agent in the state in which you reside. Why Obtaining Supplemental Dental Plans Are Important
Most people think about why they should even get supplemental dental plans when they already have health or medical insurance plans. However, what most people don’t realize is that a health or medical insurance plan is fairly different from dental plan coverage.
For instance, when you say medical insurance this usually covers treatment for diseases or illnesses that happen to you. Dental diseases or problems, though, are often preventable; hence, dental plans usually for prevention instead of fixing or curing.
In addition, when you have medical plans, it will not mean that you are also covered for dental treatments. It’s either that or if you are covered, it will be limited.
If this is the case, it would better if you sign up for a supplemental coverage plan. Ideally, your health plan would have basic dental options like fillings and teeth cleanings.
However, if you go for a supplemental dental plan, you would be covered for complex treatments that your teeth might require.
You might have a need to get bridges constructed or have a crown fixed. By getting a supplemental coverage, you would be able to cut back and help yourself in treating gum or teeth problems later on.
Plenty of dental insurance providers give out this coverage for both groups and individuals. Some plans would provide you an opportunity to pick your own dentist while other plans would require you to pick from a list.
If you are looking for the best supplemental dental plans, then you definitely have your work cut out for you.
You will notice that there are plenty of providers available, but most of the time they will not give out the best deal. If you are looking for a reliable provider, you need to look for them.
Traditionally, you would need to look for them by travelling from one office to another to compare their coverage. Or you could also spend countless hours on the phone trying to get quotes from potential providers.
However, there are easier ways to go ahead and find coverage that you need and that is to use the Internet. You can get reliable providers online that would be able to give out quotes on supplemental plans.
The only thing that you really need to do to find them is type in keywords in any major search network like Google or Yahoo! In a matter of seconds, you should be able to generate a good number of websites to choose from.
Pick out at least three or four sites and check out the quotes that they provide. Make sure that you enter the needed information accurately so that you’ll get good results.
Once you managed to get all of the possible quotes, compare the results that you got from one site to another site. Narrow it down to two or three and then call them to ask any questions or clarifications you might have regarding their plan.
Doing it this way will help you find the right supplemental dental plans suited for your needs.
