Business Ethics

Because of the increasing efficacy of the internet and the extra-ordinary rate of progress in the realm of software development businesses are becoming more transparent and more accountable to their customers and the government. In the good old days it used to be just a small number of business owners that lived up to running a truly ethical business. In those days it wasn’t hard to cut some corners and make a lot of money with little threat of justice. But today if you want to be profitable for the long haul you’ll want to make sure your coloring stays inside the lines

The scam is dying.

Scamming people has too long been easy to get away with. Any old Joe off the street could start up a swindling system to and con thousands of people out of their money. Lately though the internet has experience enormous growth. Information is free and easy to access. This is proving a crippling blow to con artists and scammers who can easily be reviewed and exposed by regular people on the internet.

Since information flows freely online it becomes extremely important for companies to make sure they have they’re conducting business properly with the government and with their customers. Mistakes can prove fatal when information spreads like wildfire across the globe. The best way to keep your profits high is to simply do business ethically.

While its true that its possible to make tons of money in the short term by scamming and defrauding people, your cash flow has a ceiling. You can only make so much before you’re discovered. And when you are discovered not only will it tarnish your reputation making it hard to start and run legitimate businesses but it could very easily make you a guest of the state for a long, long time.

Bernie Madoff is probably our most recent infamous scam artist. He could have had the world in his palm with his talent and sharp intellect but no, instead he was lured by the prospect of grotesque amounts of money. Had he just done things the right way he could have lived out his life in peace and extreme luxury. Instead He was outed by his sons and tossed into prison for his Ponzi like investing scheme. Now he will spend the rest of his days as a guest of the state.

Another example of bad business ethics is Enron. Enron was named as Americas Most Innovative Company six years in row but as we all found out later, their claimed growth and success was merely tricky, deceiving accounting. We all know the outcome of such fraudulent behavior. Enron has bust and are now trying to sell off all its remaining assets.

You want to avoid having debacles like Enron’s and Madoff’s and the surest way to do that is to simple deal honestly and to allow the laws dictate the way you do business.
