Laying A Stone Floor

July 31, 2009 in Family by Craig Younger

The flooring completes a home decorating project. As you enter a room, the eyes automatically takes in the entire space. The floor is not exempted from the sweeping gaze, especially upon seeing the room for the first time. A beautifully decorated room loses its appeal with flooring that does not match, is poorly kept or rather bland. Know that the floor makes a difference in your home interiors. You may only be stepping on and walking on them, but what the feet may overlook, the eyes don’t.

Now, your first thought at this point is probably something along the lines of “isn’t stone cold?” and to a certain extent you are right. However, if you are building a house from scratch you are obviously completely at liberty to put in underfloor heating which will warm your floor through, just taking the edge off the cold, if necessary. And you should definitely consider the fact that the sun warms stone up very easily, so a room floored with stone that catches direct sunlight will keep its heat for several hours after the sun has gone.

Stone is more than just stone. This means that there is also variety in stone flooring. There are the creamy sandstone color and the darker shade of blue. A room with a light or pale paint will look nice with darker stone flooring. You can also enhance the living space further by adorning the floor with area rugs.

Area rugs can contrast or complement your stone flooring. A pale floor for example will look good both with a dark-colored rug or a light-colored one. An area rug also offers warmth for the feet, especially on those cool mornings or gloomy rainy days.

Stone may seem an old-fashioned and expensive way to decorate a room, but it is hard-wearing and extremely unlikely to get dented or stained if something is spilt on it, although there are porous stones that will stain, so check this possibility out before you buy. Stone is also a very dramatic material, solid, durable and providing a wide range of color possibilities. Why buy linoleum in a geometric pattern when you can lay a pattern in two or more different kinds of stone?

Looking For Unique TV Stands?

July 11, 2009 in Math, Medicine, Meditation, Mitsubishi, Money and Employment, Personal Development by Craig Younger

Do you enjoy standing out from the crowd. I know I do. I don’t mind how the rest of the world goes round and I don’t dislike the status quo, but, I really love that feeling that I am unlike anyone else–that I have my own tastes and styles that others may not consider proper or even acceptable at times. May I’m just naive, but I am always very comfortable with my decisions I make, not because they are rogue but because they are genuinely good decisions.

True even in the small or unimportant choices I make day to day. When I look for something to adorn my home, I like to look for something I find unique or just a bit different to fit what I feel is my style. In the time I’ve been writing about home entertainment furniture, I have found a few that I would love to share with others that might have a similar taste as me. They are the curiously different audio-visual furniture that I want to find a way to incorporate into my home.

Furniture used for entertainment but produced by people who are anti technology in their personal lives. You heard me right, I’ve stumbled across some home entertainment furniture made by the Amish community. In case you are not aware or up to date on your Amish knowledge, my understanding is that they believe in preserving traditional methods and values. As this is the case, they refrain from using motor vehicles such as cars or tractors. They do not watch TV or videos and they don’t use cell phones. However, what they do is make furnishings and other handmade anything that is unparalleled in quality and craftsmanship. Maybe it’s a little cynical, but I love to support my modern technology with furniture made by those who refuse to take part in it.

Last year, I attended a “green” fair, and came across some very interesting work by a company that want to preserve the rain forests. There was more to it, but that was the gist of it.

The name was Greentea Designs and they travel the world to gather “reclaimed wood” which is basically wood taken from a a structure that they would normally throw out or burn somewhere. In this way, the do good for the environment and can make amazing end piece furniture that anyone would love to have on display in their house. Take a look at some of their work. It is second to none. It is a bit pricier, but hey, you’re saving the rain forest.

The last piece of furniture I would like to tell you about is something straight out of the movies and right into your family room. An TV stand that is motorized. You heard me right again. You touch some buttons on your remote control or some switch on a wall and you reveal the TV stand. It seems like an average furniture piece, but it amazes friends and family with its style. Few people have these around their home. Here’s the one drawback I have found. It looks somewhat like a bar so if you accidentally place something on it and then open it… bad news bears. But really, how cool would that be?

Unique TV Stands

July 11, 2009 in Math, Medicine, Meditation, Mesothelioma, Mitsubishi, Money and Employment by Craig Younger

Are you someone who likes to be different? I am. I don’t mind the status quo. I don’t disdain or necessarily protest the way the world goes around. I do, however, like to feel that I have my own style and unique taste regardless of what is considered to be proper or even acceptable sometimes. That may be a bit naive, I admit, but I still strive to feel comfortable in my choices because, I like them, not because they are in vogue.

This is true, even in the small or unimportant choices I make day to day. So when I look for something to adorn my home, I like to look for something I find unique or just a bit different to fit what I feel is my style. In the time I’ve been writing about home entertainment furniture, among other topics, I’ve found some of them that I wanted to share with people who have similar feelings. Here they are, the unique audio-video furniture I would like to find a way to incorporate into my home.

Entertainment furniture produced by people who are anti technology in their personal lives. That’s right, I’ve stumbled across some home entertainment furniture made by the Amish community. In case you are not aware or up to date on your Amish knowledge, my understanding is that they believe in preserving traditional methods and values. Because of this they don’t use cars or tractors, watch videos, or use cell phones. What they do is create unparalleled quality of handmade craftsmanship in everything they produce. What could be more unique than furniture supporting your technology made by people who refuse to participate in it? Not many things, that’s for sure.

A month or so ago I attended a “green” products fair, and found some really amazing work by a company who was trying to save the rain forest. OK, maybe that wasn’t their whole focus, but it was a part of it for sure.

Greentea Designs travels around the world to gather what they call “reclaimed wood” which is wood from structures that would normally be thrown out, burned, or otherwise destroyed. Then they use it to design and make fabulous high end pieces of furniture that anyone would be proud to display in their home. You should look at they work it is second to none, and you can justify the price by telling yourself that it’s all for the rain forest.

The last thing I wanted to mention is something that seems to have walked right out of the movies and into your living room. A motorized entertainment center. That’s right, with the touch of a button on your remote control on a switch on the wall, you can reveal your set as if by magic. Revealing itself from what seems like an average furniture piece, you can amaze your friends and family with a futuristic style that few people have hanging around the house. The only catch may be that you may forget it isn’t a surface to put miscellaneous things on (kind of like the bar is at my house) and have to clean it off before indulging in your favorite Star Trek flick, well, either that or the price. But think of how cool you would be!
