Thinking of Taking Photography Classes?

November 7, 2009 in Photography by Andrew Edgington

Anyone who wants to learn how to be a photographer doesn?t have to enroll for many years to get a degree. There are colleges who offer this as one of the subjects which the student may take as an elective.

Can you still learn how to be a photographer being out of school for many years? The answer is yes. The only thing needed is your dedication to learn from the proper techniques and a camera to take some shots.

Even if you do live in a city the nice thing about the Internet and technology is that you no longer even need to visit a campus in order to get an education. Distance education is offered by many institutions whereby you can learn from the comfort of your own home. The New York Institute of Photograph is a great example of the distance learning concept.

You will learn everything from exposure, lenses, the various techniques used to cover different events, journalism and much more. Being affiliated with the school, you will be entitled to free online magazine articles such as contests and digital imaging.

Classes are composed of 30 lectures on various topics. You will get a brief introduction through each and then can specialize on a particular field of interest. The nice thing about the program is that you don’t have to quit your regular job. This can be done in your free time so there isn’t any pressure in learning everything about photography.

Aside from theoretical lectures you can expect a lot of hands on experience. Being able to apply what you have learned through taking your own photographs will be a great measure of how much you have understood and retained.

One of the major expenses of being a professional photographer was developing photos, however dark rooms are no longer needed. This frees you up to spend your time on taking great shots.

No one is too old to learn something new. The curriculum is there, the technlogy to do it from home is there. All you need to do to acquire knowledge is take the initiative and you will soon be learning from the best.

There are endless rewards when you become a photographer. It is merely how much time you dedicate to it which will determine if you have the potential to win the Pulitzer Prize or be one of many who do this as a profession.

You can have fun and learn at the same time in Photography School. Simply submit your application and watch and see what develops.

Digital Cameras – The Perfect Tool For Photographers

November 4, 2009 in Photography by Andrew Edgington

Daily we hear about new innovations in the technology field. Whether it is computers, televisions or cars, manufacturers continually come up with new and innovative ideas. There is nowhere this can be found better than with digital cameras. For many years now the American consumer has slowly switched from film cameras to digital since digital cameras produce clearer photos and provide the photographer with instant feedback as to how the picture turned out.

The basic idea of digital camera becoming a hit among the masses is that it is absolutely different from its predecessor devices. The old conventional cameras used to be dependent entirely on the chemical and mechanical processes to develop the images. They were so uncomfortable to handle. More so, they used to deliver poor quality images that did not satisfy the users. People were not happy with the working of these old and uncomfortable cameras and were waiting for some new technology.

Even digital cameras have come a long way since they were first introduced onto the market. Digital cameras today are smart, instant and high-tech. Even better, they are easy enough to use that even a child can produce high quality photos. Features included on digital cameras are easy to figure out and simply by using automatic focus anyone can simply point and click to get amazing results. It is difficult to find any home still reliant on film as digital cameras are the trend of the modern times; ready to deliver all your needs, in just a few seconds.

Digital cameras work by using built-in sensors which record all the images electronically. No longer do we need to rely on film to capture our images. Photos are stored on built-in memory chips as well as portable mini-cards which can store as many as 2000 images. Once you have taken your photos you can easily transfer your pictures directly to your computer for printing or for editing. One of the greatest things is that you can delete any photo you do not like without wasting film and film processing costs.

Given all the things already mentioned you can easily understand why digital cameras are so popular. In fact, it is difficult to even find a film camera in today’s market as digital cameras are taking over the photo marketplace. They are emerging as a high quality and high performance alternatives of the traditional cameras.

The basic components of both digital and film cameras are somewhat the same. Both cameras have a series of powerful lenses. These lenses focus the light in order to create an image of the particular object you want to shoot. The basic difference between the cameras is that in place of focusing this light on a piece of a traditional film, the digital camera focuses the light on a semiconductor device, which electronically records the light. A built-in computer then disperses this electronic info down into several digital data. All the interesting, fun and advanced digital cameras are the perfect results of this digital technology.

If you haven’t already purchased a digital camera for yourself you might want to answer a few of the following questions to determine which camera will suit your needs the best. Why do you need a digital camera? Will you use it to earn a living for yourself? Will you upload your photos on the Internet and earn from them? Do you need the best quality digital camera? Are you an average user of digital camera seeking fun or a serious professional photographer? Once you have figured out your requirements you will be able to determine the type of digital camera that is best for you.

Great Photo Editing Techniques With Photoshop

November 4, 2009 in Internet by Andrew Edgington

Adobe Photoshop can be a lot of fun to use. This photo editing software has plenty of tools that will be able to let you transform any picture in to a work of art. And, you will be able to have a lot of fun in the process. For example, if someone needs their picture taken but they have this awful looking pimple, you will be able to remove the pimple with Adobe Photoshop. This is only one of the many tricks that this photo editing software can provide you.

The smudge tool is one of the most popular features of this program. The smudge tool allows you to quickly and easily erase wrinkles, pimples, scars, zits. etc. Photoshop has found the fountain of youth and the people in your photos will look years younger thanks to your skills. Easily remove the shine from oily faces, improve skin tone, and remove additional weight, turning everyone into supermodels.

One of the most common problems with photos is the phenomenon known as “red eye” and regardless of how advanced your camera is or how great your skill as a photographer it is difficult to avoid this problem. Red eye is caused by light reflecting back from the pupil of the subjects eye once the flash is reflected. Even though you can find cameras that have advanced flash settings that claims to conquer the red eye occurrence, there is really no 100 percent guarantee to remove it. Photoshop has a red eye tool built in, so with a click of the mouse you can easily and quickly rid yourself of one of the most common reasons photos are discarded. In fact, you can even remove the red eyes even those of your pet car or dog.

There are a variety of other tools that allow you to clean up your photos, including fixing lighting problems. The brightness and contrast tool, color enhancing tools, and sharpening and blurring tool make the process of editing photos quick and easy. Shadows can often cover your subjects faces, again ruining your photos. Photoshop will help you brighten up the photos simply by using the sliders on the brightness and contrast tool. Also, it can bring out the vibrant colors of a particular photo. Shaking hands can create blurred images however with a few clicks using the sharpening tools you can easily straighten items out and give you amazing results.

Another, often unavoidable, flaw in photos is the appearance of strangers or other objects in the background that distract the viewer from focusing on the subject. Sometimes you might even find that a stranger has actually posed for the photo but don’t realize it until its too late and you can’t retake the picture. Using Photoshop, you can crop elements out of the picture. Regardless of whether it’s a stray dog, an airplane going across the sky, or a complete stranger ruining the great moment, you can easily cut them out of the picture and fix the portion where you edited out the element as if nothing was there before.

Adobe Photoshop can also give you the power to be artistic. You can alter color pictures to black and white pictures and you can even make pictures look as if it is taken from a long time ago by applying the sepia effect. Also, a photo can be converted to look as if it was painted with water color, sketched with charcoal and etc.

Take your skills to the next level and swap out your background. Always wanted to be in Paris? Paste a photo of yourself onto a layer that has an image of the Eiffel Tower on it.

These are only a few things you can do with this program. Regardless of your photography skills you easily create professional quality images with this powerful program.

Creating A Digital Darkroom Using Adobe Photoshop

September 13, 2009 in Internet by Andrew Edgington

If you are a photo enthusiast you are no longer tied to the past when it comes to how to take great photos. With the help of digital technology we can now take average photos with our digital cameras and turn them into something incredible using digital photo editing software programs such as Adobe Photoshop.

The great thing about photography today is that it is much simpler than it was before. In the past, photography was all about film cameras, dark rooms, chemicals, light meters, shutter speeds, exposure value, film speed, and other photography terms. Today, it’s all about point, shoot, upload, edit and print.

Who says that you need to be in a perfect lighting condition in order to take great looking pictures? If nature doesn’t allow you to take pictures in the best lighting condition possible, then why not make it a perfect lighting condition? With Adobe Photoshop, this is possible. Even if you took dark photos, you will be able to edit it with Adobe Photoshop and make it look as if it was taken in the best lighting condition possible.

Adjusting lighting is only one of the hundreds of amazing things you can do using Photoshop. Another common problem is the red eye phenomenon which is unavoidable, even for the most experienced photographer. It doesn’t matter if you have the most expensive camera on the market today with the most advanced technology, you still are unable to completely avoid the chance of red eye. Photoshop comes equipped with a red eye tool that detects and eliminates red eye with a quick click of your mouse.

This means that you will always have photos that contain no subject with the red eye.

Taking close ups of your subjects can be another dicey area when it comes to photographing individuals, especially when they have less than perfect skin. Using Photoshop you can easily remove wrinkles, pimples, scars, moles, etc. to give your subjects beautifully perfect skin. Easily take the fear out of zooming with Photoshop.

You may have noticed that models on magazines have such smooth and perfectly tanned skin. It’s really not the make up that made them look perfect and it’s definitely not their natural skin. Most of it is all thanks to Adobe Photoshop. Even people with that extra flab can look like a super model with Adobe Photoshop. In fact, if you are good enough, you can even make a 23 year old girl look as if she was already an 80 year old grandmother. These are the potential things that you can do with Adobe Photoshop.

There are basically quite a lot more things that you can do with Adobe Photoshop. With a little creativity and a bit of imagination, you will see that Adobe Photoshop is the right software for you. Whether you are an amateur photographer or a professional one, you will definitely need this photo editing software in this digital age.

With Adobe Photoshop, you will be able to turn bad photos in to something that looks as if it was taken on the perfect conditions. So, if you want to have great looking photos printed, you will definitely want to have Adobe Photoshop. With this software, almost anything will be possible.

Adobe Elements – Play With Pixels

September 4, 2009 in Internet by Andrew Edgington

Adobe Elements is a user friendly program that allows persons with basic computer knowledge to edit their digital photos as is done with the more professional programs such as Photoshop. Adobe Elements gives you a wide range of modes in which you can run the program depending what you want to do with the digital images. So you can do a full edit or a quick fix on your photographs and the good part is you can do this all with so much ease when using Adobe elements.

With Adobe Elements you will be basically manipulating the pixels as pixels are the smallest components of an image. With Elements you will get access to tools that will allow you to change the shades of individual pixels and even delete pixels to remove undesired parts on an image. With Elements you will be able to remove undesired backgrounds such as shadows and all this is done by just changing the color of the pixels within the shadow image. There are many ways of removing undesired backgrounds one of them being the deleting of pixels and another being changing the color of the pixels such that it blends in with other components of the image.

There are also tools which can manipulate the pixels including the smudge, blur and sharpening tools. Using these tools you can fix any over-exposure or under-exposure problems by adjusting the pixels so they blend in with surrounding pixels. The sharpen tool allows you fix blurred images, in essence increasing the number of pixels which will enable the photo to become clearer.

Another popular tool is the burn tool which is used to manipulate the color of the pixels in order to change the appearance by giving your image better color tones. So, if your image has been over exposed such that the image has parts that are too light, you can use the burn tool to even out the tones. On the flip side, if your image is too dark you can use the dodge tool which will reduce the tone of the pixels in the targeted area to a lighter one.

It is important to know that while it appears that you are manipulating the photo as a whole what you are doing is editing each individual pixel that your the photo is made up of. Depending on how many mega-pixels your camera shoots at you may have hundreds of thousands of pixels in your image. By editing the individual pixels you are creating a unique photo out of an ordinary one. The nice thing is that using Adobe Elements you can edit your photos like the pro’s do without needing all the complicated training that other programs require. So go ahead, play with pixels the Elements way.

August 2, 2009 in Internet by Andrew Edgington

Is photography your passion but you can’t get your photos to look perfect? Is it your goal to produce professional looking photographs? If you agree with these questions then I have the answer for you, Adobe Photoshop.

You may not know this but all professional photographers use Photoshop to edit their photos. No one takes perfect photos 100% of the time, even professional photographers fall prey to common problems such as red eye and poor lighting. Adobe Photoshop is the best way to turn your ordinary photos into extraordinary ones.

Whatever it is, professional photographers are able to fix these mistakes by just using Adobe Photoshop. In fact, some professional photographers even edit the photos they take of models with Adobe Photoshop. If you read magazines, and you noticed the near-perfect bodies of models and very smooth skin, then you have an idea on how professional photographers manipulate the photos they take with Adobe Photoshop. For example, if you take pictures of someone who has an ugly looking zit on their face, then you will be able to make their face look perfect by removing the zit or pimple with Adobe Photoshop. In fact, you can even use Adobe Photoshop to make someone fat look like a supermodel.

Here are a few tricks that you can use to turn your photos from ordinary into extraordinary using Adobe Photoshop.

Red eye is a common problem and I want to show you how you can fix it using Photoshop. It doesn’t matter if you have the most expensive, advanced camera on the market, red eye will still plague you from time to time. Built into Photoshop is a red eye tool that will automatically identify and get rid of red eye, not only from your human subjects but your pets as well.

Not all photos are taken in the best lighting condition and using Photoshop you have tools that will allow you to create brighter and clearer photos with more vibrant colors. Automatic tools allow you to clean up your image as well as improve its appearance with a click of the mouse. Simply adjusting the brightness and contrast you can make your photo look as if it was taken during perfect lighting conditions. Using sliders you can manually adjust your photos color settings thereby giving you the sharpest and cleanest appearance of the image as possible.

Have a distraction in your photo that you want to remove? Another great feature of Photoshop is that you can easily edit out unwanted objects, replacing it with anything you choose. Even replacing people and backgrounds is possible with a few clicks of the mouse.

These items are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the things you can do using Adobe Photoshop. Hopefully you can now understand how even amateur photographers can take professional quality photographs. Using Adobe Photoshop you can turn your ordinary photos into extraordinary works of art.

Differences Between Photoshop Elements Latest Versions

July 22, 2009 in Uncategorized by Andrew Edgington

If you are in the market to purchase a photo editing software program you certainly can’t find anything better than Adobe’s digital editing software products. However, Adobe is the leader in this market and your choices may be a bit confusing so I would like to help you figure out which program is right for you: if you are new to editing your photos using your computer I recommend you go with Photoshop Elements; however, if you have been editing digital photos for a while then you may wan to look at the tools available in Adobe Photoshop.

Now that we have that out of the way your next decision will be version of the software will best suit your particular photo editing needs; however, you might actually be surprised at just how similar each version is even though newer versions tend to have a few new items added. I have found that just about any version of Photoshop Elements will meet most users needs yet when it comes to Photoshop itself you might want to purchase the most recent version as it will come with some tools that undoubtedly will make your photo editing life a bit easier.

Currently the latest Photoshop version is Photoshop CS4, which has made great advances with added new tools that will produce the most amazing results. The Photoshop software is a lot more expensive than the Elements, so even a more advanced photo editor might find the new Photoshop Elements 7 is perfectly suitable, easier and a lot cheaper. The new functions include an excellent photo organizer and an extensive online component for Digital photo sharing as well as excellent online backup.

If you decide on Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 you will be faced with two main tools, both of which are found in Photoshop CS4.

The first tool is the Organizer which allows you to vew thumbnails of your images and perform some pretty basic editing tasks. Your second main tool is the Editor which gives you access to your photos, is relatively simple to use, and provides a variety of wizards that walk you through step by step photo edits. The Quick Fixes tool will figure out the best way to fix problems in your photo including any lighting, color, or sharpness issue.

The Organizer is the easiest section to deal with on Adobe Elements 7, with tools like Auto Color and Auto Contrast. Things get a little more interesting though when you start to use the Auto Smart Fix tool that will allow you to transform poor quality images into photos worthy of a professional with just the click of a button.
