Airport Hire Car – What Upgrades Are There
Before landing at your destination airport, it’s always a good idea to have done research on airport hire car before arriving. Car rental companies are notorious for taking advantage of unprepared travelers who don’t have prior reservations. You won’t get the best rates, and you could end up getting charged more than twice others are being charged for the same car, etc.
The easiest way to find out what deals are available is to just walk from counter to counter at the airport. Of course, not all airports are designed the same way so if you happen to be in an airport where all the car rental companies are off site, you might not find the great deal you were hoping for.
Rental companies usually have some type of card that gives members certain savings and upgrades, with or without a reservation. If perchance you don’t have one of these, there are still good rates to be found if you’re willing to take the time to look. Going counter to counter is sometimes your best bet. As you’re waiting in line you might want to use your cell phone with internet to check on some rental deals, too.
If you don’t have a membership card with one of the larger rental companies, no problem. Some companies are still willing to give you some decent upgrades. Something as simple an upgrade to a larger car can be worth a wait in line, or even getting a GPS system – which is almost a necessity when it comes to finding your way around new cities. Even having the option of a free upgrade to a car with an automatic transmission can turn any vacation into pure heaven if you can’t drive a stick shift and that was all they had to give you!
Don’t sign a thing until you know whether or not you’ll be charged for mileage. Some companies do, some don’t. Some give you a certain amount for free, then charge for any overages. This might be acceptable to some people, but if you’re in a situation where you need to drive another 100 miles to your hotel or grandma’s house, this could end up costing you big time in the long run!
Also, don’t fall into the insurance coverage trap. Rental agents are trained with some hard sell techniques because rental companies make a small fortune on the huge mark ups on these products. Don’t let someone pressure you into coverage you don’t need. Call your own insurance company before buying coverage you don’t need.
Last but not least, before driving off in your new rental car, check it for previous damage! You don’t want to get charged for nicks and scratches that were there before you got in.
Many travelers choose to hire a car when they arrive at their destination, unfortunately without making arrangements ahead of time, resulting in overcharging. Upon arrival check out the airport car rental options you have. More info on http://www.airporthirecar.net
